NEW YORK (June 27, 2025) – Fresh off the release of his magical single “loveseeking,” NYC indie pop-rocker D.K. Lyons continues to make his mark as a multi-disciplinary storyteller, today arriving to illuminate the summer with “stop,” a spirited anthem that fans of The Maine and Mayday Parade are sure to enjoy.
“stop” channels the dynamic energy and catchy melodic structures of early 2000s pop-punk while weaving the essence of teenage angst through a tale of a fleeting romantic encounter. Although on the surface it’s a foot-stomping bop that has already become a fan favorite at the artist’s live shows, at its heart is a call for those who find themselves getting caught up in constant overthinking to stay rooted in the present in order to fully experience every moment that life has to offer.
“I spend an inordinate amount of time in my own head and as such feel like I’m never as present as I should be. So what I do a lot is I’ll personify a sentiment or feeling into a real-life situation (see past songs such as ‘Everything is Wonderful’ or ‘Fake Ray-Bans’) and turn them into a story where I’m meant to learn something from it,” Lyons shares. “I see ‘stop’ as a pep-talk to myself to be better about enjoying life, giving in to spontaneity, and not overthinking every little thing.”
“stop” follows “loveseeking” as the second cut from “Darling Kiss Louder,” Lyons’s forthcoming EP due out on August 22 and a project in which he embarks on a journey of questioning true love, pondering its existence as a product sold to us or if it’s really the fairytale that was presented to us as children.
The visual concept for “Darling Kiss Louder” draws inspiration from Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” the seven deadly sins, the Dark Ages, and the renaissance that followed, tapping into modern-day consumerism, the world of social media, and influencer culture. Each song on the EP will be accompanied by a music video that honors that of one of the music queens that dominated 2024, along with an SNL-style ad spot for a fake love-related product that reinforces these notions, acknowledging the current state of our society while hinting that another renaissance awaits us.
Whereas “loveseeking” represents the deadly sin of greed and was released with a music video inspired by Chappell Roan’s “Red Wine Supernova,” as well as an ad spot for a fictional dating app, “stop” represents the deadly sin of gluttony and will be accompanied by an official music video inspired by Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” which will be available for fans to enjoy on July 17.
Last week, Lyons presented his second annual Gemini Ball at the famed NYC music venue The Bowery Electric. A musical celebration of Gemini season, the night saw the multi-faceted artist light up the stage with the Geminis in his band, performing a selection of hits that had the audience dancing all night long. He is now preparing for his EP release show in August.
A true feminist and fierce defender of women’s rights, D.K. Lyons approaches music with his heart on his sleeve and keeps connection at the core of his work, all while tackling relatable topics such as love, hope, loss, and fear. He has built his career on one simple mantra: “laugh + dance + cry + repeat.”
